A Maintainer's World Wednesday

I absolutely love maintenance bloggers.  I love them because now those who are on the journey and feel that they are ready for the maintenance phase have a place to go.  Some blogs, in the past week, have had posts dealing with strategies, make sure you check out 110, Debby and Garden.  Enjoy!!!!

Words that affect us...in a good way!!

Watching the Biggest  Loser last night, Bob Harper said something that really resonated with me—it was when he went with David to see Dr. H to find out what was going on with his knee.   He said, “…when are you going to be enough, we’ve got to get to a point in your life that you say –you know what, I’m just as good and my feelings are just as valid as important as everyone else’s…”
Then Bob to the camera:
"David not being open about his feelings---it really upsets me, because it’s just a symptom for a bigger issue.  He’s doing an amazing job working through his physical issues; but if he doesn’t work through his emotional issues no amount of weight loss is going to matter because he’s either going to gain it all back or it’s going to manifest in some other part of his life!!!"
I have heard these words before and they have affected me in a negative way, but hearing them at that moment really resonated with me.  Some of us have more emotional issues than others and I think that's why some people lose weight and keep it off right away and some of us (insert me here)--we have several emotional issues to peel through because---I always just assumed it was about the weight but it was much more, for me anyway.

The Maintainer's Virtual Bookshelf

I am building a virtual bookshelf of books that are about Maintaining your weight (very few), that have a section or a chapter on weight maintenance and some lifestyle changing books that emphasize how to keep the weight off.  Some sections are not obvious so please feel free to email me if you want to know what or where.  I have not read all the books (many but not all) but none the less, I have seen them on other blogs, researched weight maintenance, weight loss and they have come up.  Whether you need a little inspiration, thinking of trying something new or if you have been meaning to read that (me); I hope you click on them and check them out!!!

**They are not in any particular order because I was playing around with a few methods of getting this like I wanted and didn't feel like undoing my work to alphabetize or group them--too much work being a librarian on my day job.

A Maintainer's World Wednesday

Love it when everyone has been busy, busy, busy blogging this past week.  I love the pockets of themes that go on.  I plan to reconfigure and redo a few things.  There are some Maintainers who only post pictures of what they are eating---this is great, of course but I need to make another section for this.  Also many Maintainers only post their workouts or concentrate solely on their exercise goals--this is also excellent but I need another section for this too.  There are some Maintainers who mix it up and some weeks I choose which is more inspiring.  I feel that in a Maintainer's World it's a little bit of this and that...Enjoy!!

Things I am working on....

There are some things (read: posts) I am working on but not getting to them fast enough.  I am expanding my Maintainer's World Wednesday's --I have been going around the Internet once again and think I have some more really interesting people with great stories.  If you all know a Maintainer who has a blog--please let me know.  I point to my definitions because these are my guiding principles for this blog.  I am sure that I will open myself up to lots of ridicule and I will deal with those privately via email.  I want to make Maintaining mainstream---not how to lose weight---because many can do this in our sleep (eat less, exercise more) but how to maintain and sustain a healthy weight, without a lot of drama--in my opinion.

I am also working on a book list (or a reading list) of diet and weight loss books that include a chapter or a section on Maintenance---with a plan per se--not the proverbial, "just keep doing what I said to do in the previous chapters"--to me this is insulting but believe it or not a lot of them will do this, only it's in a nice roundabout way.

Also there are some weight maintenance research articles that I have been reading and annotating and I want to share and will.  I just have to make the time and figure out how I will post results or what I want to say.

I have been getting a little traffic lately and am grateful to those who stop by and read.

My favorite quotes from Weight of the Nation

I absolutely love Forks Over Knives and Weight of the Nation;  they are both free on Amazon Instant Video.  I watch them all time.  It helps me keep my priorities in perspective.

"...You never know which attempt will allow you to achieve long term success."  This is at the end of Episode 2, "Choices."    This is so true, this is me, I think I am on attempt #21 or #22.

"The Science of Obesity has exploded in the last 15 years..."  I had never heard the word obesity until 1983.  It was basically a clinical term; now this is an everyday term used.

"A lot of people are able to keep off the weight with behavioral changes."  I like this quote because again these words help me keep my priorities in perspective.

These are all from Episode 2, "Choices" also.
If you have time this weekend,  watch one or all of the parts.

A Maintainer's World Wednesday

Keeping the Pounds Off –Jane has lost and is maintaining a 215 lb weight loss!!!….read that again, it's not her weight but what she has lost--I feel she is honest and lists what works for her…I like this…"The Atkins Diet did not have a plan to get me through the rest of my life, and so I came off of it by August of the same year. In January, one year after I started, I had already gained back thirty of those pounds.  How do I keep from gaining back the weight? Every diet ended with a maintenance plan. By the end of every book I read that I could now eat anything I wanted in moderation. None of the books told me how to get my brain or my body to understand what moderation meant. "  I concur, like me, searching for that maintenance plan.  She went to a support group for compulsive eaters…not OA!!  She no longer consumes milkfat—dairy and sugar.  See what else is going on in a Maintainer's World.
