Where's Triza???

I am in San Antonio, Texas and I thought I would have the time to do "A Maintainer's World Wednesday" but alas no time.  I will probably have time this weekend to catch up and to see what everyone is up to.  Eating healthy on the road is not as bad as it may seem.  I have been locating grocery stores, tonight I am next to a Target and will get some fruit.  Exercise is done in my hotel room about 20 minutes of light cardio and lots of water.  I am half way to California and should get there on Friday afternoon.  Everyone have a great rest of the week.  I am finally getting excited about the new chapter in my life.

A Maintainer's World Wednesday

I am officially in transition mode, actually in more ways than one.  I am leaving my position here in Washington, DC and driving across the country to help take of my Dad on Monday.  I have a part-time job lined up and have been applying to academic and special library positions (~7 all total), so we will see.  Next Wednesday, I plan to stop in San Antonio, TX and will work on my post, somewhere between New Orleans and there.  Now the following week, I have no idea what my life will be like so I just want to play it by ear and then after that I should be good to go.  I am having this back and forth about expectations and what I think my life will be like in California.  One thing I am trying not to do is stress out---because we all know where that leads?  I have been doing a lot of self-talk---what are you stressed about right now? why do you want to eat that? why don't you try this and see how you feel?  And guess what??? It's been working and I have been managing my stress levels by venting to my new email buddy (thanks, Leigh) and to my running buddy (thanks, Laura). So enough with all this, everyone have a Happy Wednesday!!
**I was editing the post and somehow in the HTML--hit the wrong something and deleted the middle bloggers, I am just sick, but I have to keep it moving, stay tuned for next week.

A Maintainer's World Wednesday

I was about to publish and realized I hadn't written anything at the top.  I am deep into planning my exit from the east coast and my journey to the west coast.  There are a lot of moving pieces.  My daughter made it to San Francisco,  has started her new position and is very happy.  There are several Maintainers in transition also.  I am doing well, limiting the Good-bye meals and all.  The fall season seems to be a renewal time, so we are all right in step.  Happy Wednesday!!!

What's new in weight maintenance research

I know I missed August, my apologies, but here we are in September.  How many of you know about Clinical Trials?  Well, there's a great site clinicaltrials.govSome most look at it as being guinea pigs, but personally I look at it as advancing science. On the site, you can pick and choose what you want and then you also have to be accepted, it's not automatic.  You must meet a certain criteria of the study. I say all this to say I feel, depending on the study; this might be a great maintenance tool.  #3 below is one such clinical trial.  There are some controversies but you can go on clinicaltrials.gov and read about the pancreatic concerns and if anyone died (sorry for the bluntness). The title of #4 is confusing but looks interesting, I hope to read it soon.
Per usual I have highlighted the epubs and the free article.  Please feel free to contact me if you want to know the easiest way to get one of these articles.

Reflections

Sept 2013
June 2009
I had such a fantastic birthday yesterday and had no time for reflections until today.  I am such a different woman than I was in the 2009 picture--the post for that picture is here.  The September 2013 minus me cutting off my head, is more of a reflection of who I am now.  Sorry it's dark but I snapped this quickly the day before my birthday before heading out to work and I weighed 160 lbs on Wednesday morning. I ran 5 miles on my birthday and had wanted to do more but we had all these plans and had to get going.  By the way, I am a slow runner about 12 minute miles--I tend to run faster with other people and try not to whine about the pace.  My daughter and I have been running together  (she slows down for me and I get faster for her--11 minutes--I think it's a little faster) about 2 days per week about 3-5 miles early in the morning and it's been amazing to say, I ran with my daughter this morning.  I wanted to write about what I know for sure?

  • I know that birthday cake is not an option for me (trigger) so instead I had pineapple, grapes and pink grapefruit--I do not miss refined sugar
  • I know it feels good to take care of mind, body and soul
  • I know that being 200 lbs plus is no longer an option in my life and I will continue to exercise and eat well everyday
  • I know change is very difficult but I also know it is necessary--stepping outside of my comfort zone has literally changed my life
I am about to embark on a new journey moving from Virginia to Southern California and I am excited to see what the west coast will bring.  I have been doing job searches and have applied for several positions.  I leave in a little over 2 weeks.  I want to thank everyone for reading and putting up with my inconsistent posts over the last 2 months. Maintenance is the new black, for sure!!

Happy Birthday to Me!!!!

Well, yes, today is my Birthday.  I feel good for 48 years old.  I woke up this morning, ran 5 miles, went shopping, got a mini make-over, went to lunch with my daughter, went to the movies and then to a Happy Hour going away party for my nephew and his family.  Whew, this was a very busy birthday for me.  I really enjoyed my day.  I will post more tomorrow with some pictures.
