What's new in weight maintenance research

I know I missed August, my apologies, but here we are in September.  How many of you know about Clinical Trials?  Well, there's a great site clinicaltrials.gov. Some most look at it as being guinea pigs, but personally I look at it as advancing science. On the site, you can pick and choose what you want and then you also have to be accepted, it's not automatic.  You must meet a certain criteria of the study. I say all this to say I feel, depending on the study; this might be a great maintenance tool.  #3 below is one such clinical trial.  There are some controversies but you can go on clinicaltrials.gov and read about the pancreatic concerns and if anyone died (sorry for the bluntness). The title of #4 is confusing but looks interesting, I hope to read it soon.
Per usual I have highlighted the epubs and the free article.  Please feel free to contact me if you want to know the easiest way to get one of these articles.

Obesity, Weight-related Research Scholarly Journals

The following are from the National Library of Medicine's catalog. Many of these journals are peer-reviewed and therefore are indexed in PubMed.  Some of these journals are subscription based and cost money to actually read an article and I can only you point you to the journal on the Publisher's site.  All is not lost:  You can always go to your Public Library.  You would be surprised at how much resource-sharing is going on, making it affordable for public libraries (and you) to gain access to Databases that carry some of these journals.  I am amazed that even my own Public Library has Business Database package that some small academic institutions can no longer afford.  Anyway, with your library account you can tap into some of these databases from home, or on their wireless if you bring in a tablet or laptop.  If they do not have access, they will get the article for you via Interlibrary Loan for a nominal fee.  If all else fails, please feel free to contact me and I will point you in a good direction---this is what I do all day long. Have a great Memorial Day Weekend!!!

Healthy People 2020 Structured Evidence Queries

I just wanted to put this out to those of you who like information and research for your blogs.  This project covers a lot of agencies but because of my job, I tend to make note of the National Library of Medicine and National Institutes of Health.  The Healthy People 2020 Structured Evidence Queries is basically all the evidence done for you with pre-formulated searches you click on.  The citations are defaulted from most recent so you get to see for yourself what is coming out in the area of let's say: Large Topic area of Nutrition and Weight Status---then it breaks down the outcome objectives of Healthy People 2020---when you click on the box in the left margin for PubMed Search---for some of them the PubMed Search opens and then for some it breaks it down further into sub-sub-objectives then click the PubMed Search to see the results.  I clicked on NWS 8--Increase the proportion of adults who are at a healthy weight--which is close to what I research--some of the results tap into types of diets--home-delivered dietary approaches and it's influence for the hypertensive or the fast food and obesity link.  Please take a look at my post here  if you have questions about the abstract or  if you want to know how to get the full-text of an article at your public library please feel free to email me.
